From Photographer to Entrepreneur: How Submitting to Christ—Developing An Oversubscribed Business Mindset—Recalibrated My Business

Morgan Winfrey

On the wall behind them hangs a vision board with faith-inspired quotes and business goals. A Bible sits open next to the book, suggesting a balance between faith and learning. The scene radiates reflection, growth, and purpose.

On December 1, 2024, I closed the door on my old life—quite literally. That was the day I officially discontinued my photography brand, WinfreyOpticz. Truthfully, I’d stopped shooting more than a year earlier, in 2023, once I realized how much sin I was indulging in and promoting through some of the glamour and erotic content I created. Submitting myself fully to Jesus Christ changed my heart, my priorities, and ultimately my path. By December 10, 2024, I had finished reading the entire Bible for the first time in my life, and I was ready to start a new chapter—a business venture guided by faith.

The Birth of JustWin Media

That same day I shut down my photography brand, December 1, 2024, also marked the launch of JustWin Media—a business coaching and media agency dedicated to helping entrepreneurs not just create captivating content but also convert viewers into paying clients. I wanted to do things differently this time, grounded in integrity, and with a firm foundation that honored God’s calling on my life.

It wasn’t until January 7, 2025—just a few days ago—that I finally sat down to read Daniel Priestley’s Oversubscribed: How To Get People Lining Up To Do Business With You. If you’re wondering how a book I only just read had such a big impact, here’s the short answer: I saw exactly where I went wrong in my photography days—and how I can do better now with JustWin Media.

Realizing the Disconnect in My Old Life

Reflecting on my photography career, I see clearly that I was hustling so hard because I had no real foundation. I spent much of 2023 wrestling with guilt as I recognized how entrenched I was in sin through the nature of some of my shoots. By the time I stopped shooting, I didn’t just feel burned out—I felt lost.

When I opened the Bible and committed to reading it front to back, it wasn’t just about “finishing.” It was about letting the truths within shape my values, business ethics, and personal life. Luke 14:28, for example, speaks about counting the cost before building—something I never did when I hopped from city to city, chasing photography gigs that barely covered travel and lodging.

Discovering Oversubscribed—After the Photography Chapter Ended

Contrary to what some might assume, I didn’t read Oversubscribed while I was still a photographer. I wrapped up that chapter fully by December 1, 2024. Only this January 7, 2025 did I pick up Priestley’s book—and I couldn’t stop underlining passages.

Here’s what struck me:

  1. Capacity: Priestley insists on knowing exactly how many clients you can serve excellently. In my old life, I said “yes” to everyone, traveling constantly. I never set a cap or considered my own well-being.

  2. Campaign Design: He talks about weekly, quarterly, and annual promotions that fit a larger narrative. Back then, I’d do random Instagram posts whenever I needed to fill my schedule—no overarching strategy.

  3. Ideal Clients: In my photography days, I specialized in glamour and erotic shoots, but most of the people who loved my style couldn’t pay my rates. Worse, I wasn’t fully aligned with that niche once I recognized the sin I was entangled in. Now, my aim with JustWin is to collaborate with clients whose values and goals resonate with mine.

  4. Products-for-Prospects: A big aha moment. I used to rely on deep discounts or “limited-time offers” to snag sales. Priestley suggests lower-risk entry points—like mini-services—to filter serious prospects from curious onlookers.

  5. Remarkable Delivery: This means wowing your clients so much, they talk about you without prompting. I gave decent customer service in photography, but I never harnessed that to form waiting lists or create genuine “oversubscription.”

How This Shapes JustWin Media’s Mission

Having left behind my old photography brand, I’m determined not to repeat the same mistakes. JustWin Media exists not just to produce eye-catching visuals, but to anchor each piece of content in a solid business strategy. It’s like Jesus’s parable in Matthew 7:24–27 about the house built on rock versus one built on sand. Great media—like a stunning house—means nothing if the underlying business foundation is shaky.

Let’s Build on Rock, Not Sand If you’re tired of ad-hoc marketing, inconsistent revenue, or chasing unaligned clients, JustWin Media wants to partner with you. Contact us here to discuss how we can help you structure your business for true sustainability before creating any content.

Lessons from Scripture—and Oversubscribed

Finishing the Bible on December 10, 2024, was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. I saw how many biblical principles—integrity, stewardship, serving with excellence—also appear in business teachings like Priestley’s. The difference, of course, is that I’m now building everything on a framework that honors my faith, instead of just hustling for money.

  • Counting the Cost (Luke 14:28): I now meticulously plan monthly or quarterly goals, ensuring I’m not stretching my capacity.

  • Doing Everything as Unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23): My content and client interactions are now guided by a desire to glorify God, not just feed my ego or wallet.

  • Serving the Right Audience: Much like Jesus didn’t force Himself on those uninterested, I focus my energy on those who genuinely desire JustWin Media’s approach—and can afford it.

Final Reflections

It’s wild to think how much can change in such a short time. I closed my photography brand on December 1, 2024, finished reading the Bible by December 10, and launched JustWin Media the same day I ended my old life’s chapter. Then, on January 7, 2025, I devoured Oversubscribed—realizing how perfectly it complements my newly shaped worldview and business philosophy.
